About the Choir
Leicester University Chamber Choir is an ambitious, auditioned group of around 35 singers, based at the University of Leicester. We perform regularly in Leicester and further afield, and enjoy exploring a wide variety of choral repertoire, both sacred and secular. Our membership is drawn mainly from the University's student body (both undergraduate and postgraduate) but we also welcome Associate members, often from other local universities, colleges and 6th Forms.
We have gone from strength to strength in recent years, and are becoming increasingly busy! We put on at least two concerts each term, as well as taking part in a number of other events. Annual highlights are our Spring Term residential trip - this year, we were choir in residence at St Alban's Cathedral - and our Summer tour abroad (Prague in June 2019). We have recorded two CDs (Live in Berlin, 2015, and Choral Reflections, 2017) with another recording planned for 2020. In a university with no Music Faculty, we are the only music society to employ a professional Musical Director and Vocal Coach which allows us to be ambitious musically. We also have a very active committee of students and there are many opportunities to get involved in the organisational aspects of the choir.
We have high standards for the musicianship and commitment of our members; however, we are also a very friendly and welcoming group who enjoy a great social life together, forming many long-lasting friendships. The choir is in a period of growth and it's a very exciting time to join us! If you're interested in joining, find out more here, and don't hesitate to get in touch.
